Could
this little pendant help us cope more easily with modern life? Kate
Newman puts it to the test.
I’ve been stressed for months. I’ve just started a new job, I’m
already in need of a good holiday and to top it off my mother’s
coming to stay for three weeks. So when I’m handed a leaflet that
tells me I can strengthen my resistance to the effects of stress
and increase my energy, I read it. It’s not a new wonder drug but
a small silver pendant that you wear round your neck. Apparently
everyone from Madonna to Sarah Jessica Parker has one. For someone
whose right brain barely functions, understanding how the QLink
works is a little tricky, but after it’s explained to me “as a daily
dose of acupuncture” the fog lifts a little.
In layman’s terms it works by stimulating the body’s energy points
(or meridians) using a non-invasive technique called Sympathetic
Resonance Technology. This in turn helps your body deal with everyday
physical stressors like poor nutrition, pollutants and of course,
stress. It also helps with things like electrical currents from
computers and mobile phones.
Still sceptical, I agree to be convinced. Australian QLink distributor
Michael Kelly and osteopath Kerry Harrison turn up, armed with a
machine ready to prove just how stressed I am.
As Kerry tests various meridians on my hands and feet that relate
to different internal organs I grow more and more alarmed. On the
screen in front of me stress shows up red whilst green equals healthy.
The screen is a mass of red. Feeling my stress levels soar at discovering
I’m so stressed, the machine lets out a beep of protest. Oh god,
I’m even stressing the machine out.
Michael and Kerry smile at me.
“Are you diabetic?” asks Kerry.
“No. Why? What makes you say that?” I ask.
“Probably just a funny reading,” says Kerry.
I’m convinced they’re about to pronounce me terminal when Michael
says, “Don’t worry, we wouldn’t be putting you through this if we
didn’t have a solution.”
I smile weakly. Apparently only the QLink can save me now.
Next Michael gives me the pendant to wear and after a few minutes
Kerry does the same tests again. I’m amazed when the screen turns
green. Each test that had been red without the QLink is green now
that I’m wearing it.
I ask them how they rigged the machine. I still can’t believe
it but Michael prints the evidence out and hands it to me. I agree
to wear the QLink for a few weeks and see if I notice any changes
in my energy levels and health.
As If By Magic
I start doing some research and discover wonder stories about
Qlink – migraine sufferers who haven’t had a migraine since they
put it on, and people who hadn’t slept properly for years suddenly
having a great night’s sleep. I also notice half the Olympic team
seem to be wearing them.
Fortunately, I don’t have a specific ill to cure. But within a
couple of weeks I feel more alert. I’m not nodding off at my desk
at four o’clock and my partner wonders what has happened to my much-loved
Sunday afternoon nap. It may be a coincidence, but I feel great.
Then I get a cold. I’m really disappointed and my faith in the
little silver pendant takes a dip. But then my I-never-get-sick
partner gets it too. We sniff and sneeze through a few days together
and then he takes to his bed, while I still go to work.
“But I’m never sicker than you,” he says in outrage.
“Maybe you need a QLink,” I tell him. It crosses my mind that it
may be a mental thing. I’m expecting to feel healthier and therefore
I do. But hell, who cares, it doesn’t matter why I’m feeling better,
just that I am.
I have worn my QLink every day for two months now and although
I still feel tired after a busy week, it’s the kind of tired that
won’t take a three week trip to Fiji to get over. All I need these
days is a good night’s sleep.
Who really knows how or why I feel healthier and more energetic.
It might just be good old optimism but one thing’s for sure, I’m
not giving my QLink up. Besides, it’s cheaper than a holiday.
